Who are we?
Broken Rainbow is a charity and company limited by guarantee. It has a small staff team and the work is overseen by a Board of Trustees.
CEO:: Melvin Hartley. Melvin is a skilled project manager with extensive experience in the community safety and community policing fields. He spent 11years with Bedfordshire Police prior to becoming Community Safety Manager with three different local authorities. He is a Practioner Associate for the Local Strategic Partnership Development Programme for the South East and an advisor to the Board of the National Community Safety Network.
Admin:: Aimee White. Aimee specialises in everything and anything that everyone and anyone may need. Her skills include Information and Communication Networks, Web 2.0, marketing, art and design, and finance. She also volunteers for smaller charities to help with ICT issues and generally solving that which seems annoying. In her spare time she has written three books, the first to be published this year.
Admin:: Emily Ryans. Emily has been involved with LGBT voluntary organisations for many years, including being chair of the LGBT Welfare Committee at Hull University. She has a degree in British Politics and Legislative Studies, and spent a year working in the House of Commons for a Labour MP and for the Liberal Democrat Whips’ Office. She is particularly passionate about issues of LGBT rights, recognition and equality.
Consultants:
Training Consultant:: Rita Hirani. Rita has over 15 years direct experience of working in the domestic violence sector, mainly with LGBT and Minority sectors. A co-chair of Stonewall Housing she also worked in partnership with the Naz project.
Trustees:
Chair:: Jo Barringer. Jo is a steering group member of Brighton & Hove's LGBT workers forum, she devised and implemented the LGBT staff mentoring scheme, and sits on the steering group for the GBT IDVA post in Brighton. She is also a member of the LGBT DV & Abuse working group Brighton and coconvenor of the South East Regions UNISON LGBT committee.
Trustee:: Dr Catherine Donovan. Catherine is a reader in Sociology and Director of the International Centre for the Study of Violence and Abuse in the School of Health, Natural and Social Sciences, University of Sunderland. She has carried out numerous research papers.
Treasurer:: Malek Wan Daud. Malek is a member of the Bar Council Sex and Diversity Committee and the Diversity Sub Committee of the Family Justice Council.
Trustee:: Ian Cole. Ian currently works for the NHS as a gay men’s worker providing outreach services, face to face contact, group facilitation and training on equality and diversity, LGBT issues and same sex domestic abuse. He is currently studying a masters degree in Public Health and Health promotion.
Trustee:: Sharon Pinner. Sharon Pinner is a politics graduate with a professional background in both the commerical and public sectors in HR, Training and Senior Management and is currently a clinical hypnotherapist with a London practice. She has previously served as Women's Co-ordinator on the JGLB committee and has a deep understanding of both DV and LGBT issues.
Trustee:: James Harrison. James is an aspiring barrister after having studied law at Reading University and Nottingham Law School. Amongst other activities, James has recently given several presentations on bisexuality and the differences between homophobia and biphobia.
